07 October 2008

Greetings, everyone:

After consultation between our committee Chairs, Nomi Lonky and Minh-Ha Pham, our vice-chair, Eva Perez, and myself, we have decided to cancel October’s regularly scheduled, monthly meeting of the OC Stigma Elimination Task Force. Reasons included our last meeting having been held later that usual in September, and the fact that the committees have not yet met since then.

These committee meetings should be our focus for now:

The Outreach Committee will meet 1:00 - 3:00 pm on Tuesday, Oct 14, at the NAMI building on 17th Street in Santa Ana. (map)

This is an important meeting, as we will be getting ready for our participation in the TAY Conference set for the end of the month. Your support at the meeting – and at the event – would be much appreciated! For information, contact Chair Nomi at nomilonky@gmail.com

The Funding / Resources Committee will meet 2:00 - 4:00 pm Tuesday, Oct. 21, in my office, 600 W. Santa Ana Blvd., Suite 510, also in Santa Ana. (map)

Our next monthly general meeting will be held 1:00 - 3:00 pm on Thursday, Nov. 13, at the 600 W. Santa Ana Blvd. facility.  A meeting reminder will be sent out prior to the event.

Thank you for your support, and I’ll see you at the committee meetings!

Richard Krzyzanowski
Task Force Chairperson

OCSETF Funding Committee - September Minutes

 September Minutes OCSETF Outreach Committee

September 12, 2008

Greetings to all:

Just a reminder that the OC Stigma Elimination Task Force will meet from 1 - 2:30 p.m. this Thursday, September 18 (a week later than our usual 2nd-Thursday-of-the-month tradition, due to scheduling conflicts for several members).

We will meet at the MHSA offices at 600 W. Santa Ana Blvd., Suite 510, Santa Ana, 92701, in the Conference Room.  I will be able to validate parking in the adjoining parking structure (enter off of Parton St.) for people whose agencies do not reimburse for mileage.

Our Funding / Resources and Outreach committees will report on their activities, and the group will discuss some important issues that have come up in the course of their work.

Unfortunately, because of a staffing shortage, we have no minutes from the last Task Force meeting, but minutes from the committees are to follow.

Please let me know if you have any other hot topics for inclusion on the agenda.

Looking forward to seeing you all there,

Richard Krzyzanowski
Task Force Chairman

July OCSETF Minutes

July Minutes OCSETF Outreach Committee

August 2008

Greetings to all:

Just a reminder that the OC Stigma Elimination Task Force will meet from 1 - 2:30 p.m. this Thursday, August 14.

Due to a scheduling snafu (entirely my fault!), we will meet at the County facility at 405 W. 5th Street, Santa Ana, 92701, in Room 202 which is located on the 2nd floor near the room where the vending machines are located.  I will be able to validate parking in the adjoining parking structure.

The highlight of the meeting will be the reports from our new committees: Outreach and Funding / Resources.  My thanks and congratulations go out to the new leadership and all participants of these committees, as I have noted the energy and dedication you have already devoted to the mission of the Task Force.  Thank you!!

Attached, please find the minutes from the last Task Force meeting, as well as the minutes from the first Outreach Committee meeting.  Minutes for the first Funding / Resources Committee meeting are to follow.

And, speaking of minutes, can some good soul volunteer to take minutes Thursday?  My administrative staff is understaffed right now, so I will not be able to provide for this meeting.  Please?

Please let me know if you have any other hot topics for inclusion on the agenda.

Looking forward to seeing you all there,

Richard Krzyzanowski
Task Force Chairman

July 2008

Greetings to all:

Just a reminder that the OC Stigma Elimination Task Force will meet from 1 - 2:30 p.m. this Thursday, July 10, at NAMI Orange County, 1810 East 17th Street, Santa Ana, 92705  (Parking in the back).

At our last meeting, we completed our strategic planning process, and the group identified the following projects as priorities:

  • Developing outreaches to specific populations and targeted communities

  • Developing a presence on the Internet, whether it is our own website, a “landing site,” collaboration with other websites, or a combination of these possible strategies

  • Developing outreach materials, possibly including an outreach kit and a “literature pool” inclusive of materials from member organizations

At this month’s meeting, I would like us to consider adopting a committee structure that would create the vehicles that would allow us to carry this work forward, and in a way that is not entirely dependent on our monthly meetings. As I envision it, committees would work semi-independently, coordinating with each other and through the Task Force Chair. I would suggest that each committee select a chair and vice chair.

One committee not specifically focused on the above projects would be dedicated to identifying resources/funding to support the ongoing work of the Task Force.  How we organize the remaining committees, however, will be a topic for discussion this Thursday: Should we create one committee for each identified project area, or can some be combined in some intelligent way?  Let’s talk!

Also on the agenda this month will be the selection of a vice-chair who could be available if your humble chairman is not, and can assist me on occasion.  I hope one of you might consider supporting me in this way.

Please let me know if you have any other hot topics for inclusion on the agenda.

Looking forward to seeing you all there,

Richard Krzyzanowski
Task Force Chairman

June 2008

Hello to all:

I hope you are all well!

This is just a reminder that the Stigma Elimination Task Force will hold its next regular meeting from 1 - 2:30 p.m. Thursday,  June 12, at the offices of NAMI Orange County, 1810 East 17th Street, Santa Ana, 92705  (Parking in the back).

The major agenda item will be our continuing Strategic Planning Discussion, assessing “where we are now” and “where we want to go” in the coming year.  I hope to conclude this discussion and have the group consider forming the committees that will then carry the agreed-upon projects forward.

If you have any other, specific items you would like to add to the agenda, please let me know and I’ll include them.

Also, as before, anyone willing to help out by taking meeting minutes would be most appreciated!  The minutes from our May meeting are attached. Stigma Elimination Task Force - May Meeting Minutes

Those of you that have literature of a “stigma-busting” nature, or information that provides information about your organizations’ work, please feel free to bring enough to the meeting to share with the group, as well as extras for inclusion in our future outreach activities.  Remember: We are a coalition, and our strength is in our common vision and combined resources!

Finally, some of you may notice that the number of e-mail addresses on this monthly notice has greatly expanded, and some of you may be surprised to find yourselves on the list.  This expansion is partly the result of expanded interest following recent outreach activities, while some of you have been added (a command decision on the part of your humble chairperson) because I hope you might be interested in either participating directly in, or keeping informed about, an organization dedicated to educating our communities about the realities of mental illness and how it affects individuals, families and our society at large.

Looking forward to seeing you all there,

Richard O Krzyzanowski
Task Force Chairperson
